Hackers' Heaven: Next Attack from the Stars? New Era to Open Up
Satellite Encryption Weaknesses
Malicious ransomware attackers may begin exploiting sloppy
systems in space - if they haven't already - amidst fears of
outdated security on satellites grows.
The key issue appears to be a lack of separation between
Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT)
systems - in other words, mundane tasks such as basic
communication and sensitive areas such as controlling
satellites.
Hackers are apparently able to eavesdrop on unencrypted
financial data, block or interfere with signals using
relatively simple equipment.
Sky isn't the limit for cybercrime, apparently.
