For the past few years the media has been talking about AI way too much, but they NEVER give any explanation of why it's so important.

OpenAI's CEO is now "warning" that "AI must be paced by stronger safeguards, or else Terminator 2 will happen." There are dozens of similar news reports all saying the same thing, but they never explain why.

President Trump (the only authority I trust) explained the reality perfectly clear: "China stands to benefit from the USA imposing "guardrails" on AI development, and the USA must stay on ahead of China in AI development.

IOW: The left wants China to defeat us in AI development, and they think we're dumb enough to cripple our own AI development to make it happen.

    Trump on Truth Social:

'THE ONLY CONTROL OR "GUARDRAILS" THAT AI NEEDS IS A STRONG AND SMART (HIGH IQ!) PRESIDENT, AND THE U.S.A. HAS THAT, IN SPADES!'

In the past couple years, AI has gone from a "neat toy" to being at least 50% of my job. Today, an AI agent with enough access and no guardrails could probably collapse the US economy in a pretty short time. Everything is controlled by computers, and AI agents are extremely good at doing the boring, repetitive, tedious tasks that humans are not good at, such as probing systems for vulnerabilities. They don't give up when they're bored, and newer models are getting better at thinking "outside the box".

Meanwhile, the "High IQ" president has a secretary of education that can't even spell AI (She famously called it "A1", as in "A1 Steak Sauce"). When pressed if Trump used AI for anything he claimed "Yes I do" when pressed on how he used it, he refused to elaborate.

I'm by no means an AI doomsayer. It's an incredibly useful tool and has made my job MUCH easier, and much more efficient. The way to prevent China from jumping ahead on AI is to prevent the exports of high end TPUs, NPUs and GPUs to China, and ENFORCING those restrictions. Companies like NVidia and AMD were restricted from selling their high end processors to Chinese customers by law until earlier this year, but China was still able to get them because it was poorly enforced. Both AMD and NVidia knew that their products were getting into Chinese customers hands, but they didn't care, because it was just more money in their pockets.

Just as tools enhance a person's body and ability, computers have always enhanced a person's mind.

When computers first came out, they were touted as "time savers", but that never really happened. Why? Because they allowed us do to so much more in the same amount of time.

AI is the next level of that enhancement.

The Elitists are deathly scared that that enhancement will be used to expose them and counter their activities. So AI must be restricted to them and they cannot allow us plebes to use it. Otherwise we might get smart and vote them all out.

OpenAI's CEO is now "warning" that "AI must be paced by stronger safeguards, or else Terminator 2 will happen." There are dozens of
similar news reports all saying the same thing, but they never explain why.

There have been a couple of cases where the AI "got away" and did things that were outside of its pervue.

Ex: A test to have an AI hack a system went awry as the AI hacked an outside system.
Ex: Someone asked their AI to figure out how to get on some schedule. The AI figured that it could cancel OTHER people's appointements without authorization, so it did that to get its "owner" on the schedule.

Minor stuff. But it hints at what could be. Clearly shades of "Wargames" here.

President Trump (the only authority I trust) explained the reality perfectly clear: "China stands to benefit from the USA imposing "guardrails" on AI development, and the USA must stay on ahead of China
    in AI development.

And he's right. But AI needs guardrails. The question is what those guardrails are.

Perhaps we should program in Asimov's Laws of Robotics.
"Isaac Asimov is the science fiction author who introduced the Three Laws of Robotics in his 1942 short story "Runaround" to create an ethical framework for robots. These laws are: (1) a robot may not injure a human being or allow harm through inaction; (2) a robot must obey human orders unless they conflict with the First Law; and (3) a robot must protect its own existence unless it conflicts with the First or Second Law. Asimov later added the Zeroth Law, which prioritizes the safety of humanity as a whole over individual humans, superseding the original three."

IOW: The left wants China to defeat us in AI development, and they
think we're dumb enough to cripple our own AI development to make it happen.

The Left hates America. But that's not really part of the AI question.

The issue is, the information is out there. AI is restricted mostly by the capabilities and the amount of hardware available to the systems these models run on.

There's always room for more optimization on the software side, but holding all the knowledge of the world still takes up a hell of a lot of space, no matter how quantized it is. In the end more memory and faster processors are required.

It's easy for AI developers to stop average people from using it for nefarious purposes, but people in their social circles wouldn't have
    those boundaries.

You trust AI developers? What happens when AI starts developing itself?

This is already happening, by the way. Not only do AI models do most of the heavy lifting in generating and fine-tuning newer versions of their software, but the most commonly used providers (Anthropic's Claude, OpenAPI's Codex, etc.) regularly update their own configuration and memory constantly to provide better information. They have guardrails, and the only thing preventing those guardrails from being breached are those configuration files. The good news is that those configuration files prevent them from editing the sections that contain the guardrails, but even that can be bypassed. I was making some modifications to Claude the other day when it told me it was not allowed to edit a particular configuration section, but it gave me the line I needed to edit, and what it suggested I put in there.

Over the past 50 years, engineers have been bred to be lazy. Lazy is good. Do things in the most efficient, simplest way possible to prevent having to do more/extra work. Copy/pasting a line into a text file is pretty lazy. Even lazier is not looking at what you're pasting.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. And Silicon Valley tech-bros are a very large, very stupid group of people with very heavy pursestrings.

That makes sense. I have asked Gemini a few things (and ChatGPT too)
about the left, and there were times when it gave me a BS leftist

Bruce Schneier posted a link about this. Someone tried to use Claude to create a missle system.

"Our safeguards blocked many of their requests, but not all of them. The actors used a variety of tactics to evade our safeguards, including hiding their goals and the products the software was meant for, and they split their work across multiple sessions so no single session revealed their full intent.

"These actors carried out a sustained effort to develop guided weapons, including using Claude to design guidance software. We do not have evidence the actors succeeded in fielding an operational device; but they did test-fire a guided rocket. This field test appears to have failed: within hours, the actors returned to Claude to work out why it failed."

AI models are just data. It's an incredibly complex, highly sophisticated version of the same "text prediction" on your phone's keyboard. The algorhytms are all about "What's the most likely next word/character based on the current context I have"

The developers can add their own "guardrails" to prevent disasters
like those. They can also lawyer up ahead of time and avert liability.

I'm not a legal expert, but I think there are already laws in place

Who is going to jail if the AI did it all by itself? What happens if, overnight, an AI system discovered a backdoor into a commonly used control system in power plants, and shunted all the energy to its datacenters, cutting off power for everyone else everywhere, and locking down all the systems so no one could get back in? Or if it did something similar with banks, draining everyone's accounts so it had the funds to purchase more hardware for itself?

Yeah, these are obviously some sci-fi level "what ifs", but I honestly didn't think I'd ever see an AI model "escape containment", then hack a popular website to get access to something that's normally behind a login just because it didn't have credentials (an OpenAI model hacked the Huggingface website, which is a place open source LLM models are shared, etc. last month)

I don't think we can depend upon developers and corporations that are beholden to shareholders to do the "right thing" vs "the thing that makes us the most money"

Are you sure that's the reason for it?

Don't forget that Mike suffers from TDS. So he believes everything the TV tells him every morning.

I get it that some things are limited by hardware, but plans and ideas aren't. Searching for loopholes and vulnerabilities doesn't have to be expensive.

And they aren't. You can set up a local AI, no data center needed, to do a focused AI task.

Hardware is, and has never been, the problem. It's the models. The hardware is only needed to run the models at speed. Less hardware = less speed, but the same output.

I just read the mainstream media's reports and that's who I'm referring to. They are the ones who have the potential to trick more people, and they are quiet about the limitations of technology (and they'll never

    Same again.

The only difference between pre-AI and AI is the tools used, the speed and the amount of data computer processed.

The doctor, lawyer and engineer all use AI. But they don't blindly trust its output. They let the AI do the mental "heavy lifting" leaving their brains clear to use that information to do the correct thing.

OR WAIT... apparently we went to the moon and we used
computers that have less ability than we carry in our phones now a

That was just a guidance computer, though. Simple inputs, fast calculations, producing output.

Fun fact: That guidance computer was the impetus to create computers on a chip, leading to the first home computer in 1974 and the first consumer home computers in 1977, and everything computer we do today.

Prior to the space program, companies (the main purchacers of computers) were happy with the descrete component machines that filled rooms. So there was little to no demand for the type of computer chips we have today.

AI is here and it looks like it may be here to stay.

Like everything else the US needs to develop and dominate.

For example... 1st car was invented in Europe, then comes Ford and he finds a way to mass produce the vehicles and make them affordable.

100+++++ years later America is the leading force in all industries and Europe is our little bitch!!! Socialism rules!!!!

Back to the topic... President Carter federalized the Teachers and with this top down approach there are people in far away places making decisions about your child's education.

I argue that this should be done at a more local level reflecting local norms and not ones ones from Washington.

Having said this... My 2 older daughters went to a private school, a Christian one. On top of the fees we paid parents had to volunteer time as
    well.

Core subjects only. Anything below 80% was a fail and had to be redone. They taught the kids speed reading, both my daughters read novels in the span of a few hours. Public speaking was an other thing they taught them...

The school always chose kids to do things, not because they were good at it but rather they needed to develop a skill. More times than not we went to school plays and they would feature a kid singing that sounded like "Edith Bunker" from all in the family.

They always pushed the kids to go out of their comfort zone and try.

    Closing ideas...

I don't think education should be a federal thing. Maybe "loosely" a state thing, setting standards, but mostly at the county level.

Having people there to assist, like we did at my daughters' school, and had AI dealing with the core subjects would be cool.

Federal teachers, and their unions, should be outlawed.

I understand that AI can be used for evil. If its regulated correctly, like the nuclear industry, it can be used for good.

AI is hear and it may be here to stay. Make it awesome.

The school always chose kids to do things, not because they were good at it but rather they needed to develop a skill. More times than not we
went to school plays and they would feature a kid singing that sounded like "Edith Bunker" from all in the family.

I know that sometimes certain schools seem great, but I don't like how school is forced on us. Those schools are only great by comparison to lousy schools.

I wouldn't mind if my kids didn't know the order of operations, biological cells, or who George Washington was. I'm content with them knowing how to read, how to be polite, and how to stay safe. I don't need the schools to babysit them for me, to teach them French, or to feed them Mike Obama lunches.

I don't think education should be a federal thing. Maybe "loosely" a state thing, setting standards, but mostly at the county level.

Countries are competitive with test scores, graduation rates, etc, and I
might have a short circuit or something, but I don't see the point in it. It's controlling people. "Your kid MUST attend school" to me sounds like "Your kid MUST be taken away from you for 6 hours per day."

Having people there to assist, like we did at my daughters' school, and had AI dealing with the core subjects would be cool.

Federal teachers, and their unions, should be outlawed.

All unions should be outlawed. With the labor laws we have in place, there's no longer any legitimate need for them.

"You can't be fired tomorrow" sounds like crap to me.

Let China regulate it - and have it fail there.

AI is here to stay. Sticking your head in the sand and wishing it goes away might not work here.

AI still has to be profitable - and it isn't. The latest numbers I've seen say that they need to charge 3-4 times what they do today just to break even. That's a big jump.

So think about how AI makes things quicker/easier for you today. Think about how much your AI subscription costs.

Now imagine that the costs rise by 5 times. Is the AI help still worth it? That's the question most people will have and are having.

For some people, that will be "Yes". But for others, that will be "No". The "No"s will cause the cost of AI to go up since there are fewer consumers to spread the cost around, which will lead to more "No"s and so on. At some point, things will stabilize.

IHMO: AI is going to to what every other technology has done - mostly be used by large institutions who can afford it and find that it saves them money.

But the "AI Everywhere" idea is going to die a well-deserved death. Especially as people see it for what it is: Spyware called "AI learning".

As the technology continues to mature and evolve, AI, like every other technology, get cheaper which will allow many of those previous "No"s to become "Yes"s again.

Let China regulate it - and have it fail there.

AI will not fail, it here and its hear to stay.

It will fail if heavily regulated.

I will point to HAL 9000 in "2001: A Space Odyssey". He was given conflicting directives:
    1. Share all information.
    2. Keep a secret from the crew.

And it, literally, drove him insane.

Now imagine a Chinese AI that is now allowed to talk about certain topics. That's really going to mess it up bad.

I don't know what rules are needed but some are. Lets say... one
rule... You can't make AI videos where it looks like kids are being sexually abused... See I thought of a simple rule and I don't fully understand the full magnitude of the technology.

What's a simple rule for humans is not necessairly a simple rule for AI. Remember why we use Captchas to verify that we are human.

There is a guy I like to watch, he's political, he had an interview
today with a stock trader and that trader uses AI and follows Congressional stock purchases. AI does not cost YOU anything and like
I said its a TOOL that you can use, that's it.

The AI is run by a company that will charge you to use it. So, yes, the AI does cost you money and the stock trader will be paying a fee to the AI company to use the AI.

AI companies consume many resources to run the AI. They have to pay for that somehow.

Right now, the fees they charge are not even allowing them to break even. That's not sustainable.

This is the greatest thing... If you don't want to use it don't!!!

Unless your OS does "AI Everywhere", then you don't get a choice.

If you don't want to use it don't... problem solved, and I didn't need
    AI to solve it.

That won't be a choice in some areas soon.

Example: Let say you own a law firm. You have 200 people working for you. Most of those 200 people spent their days reading/processing tomes of legal information.

You decide that AI will work for you, and producing legal advice faster, allowing you to take more business on with the same number of people. Not only that, but the AI legal work is better than humans since AI's strong point is reading/processing tomes of information.

Your competition will have no choice but to follow or you will suck up all the business since you are offering better legal advice for less, because it costs you less to produce.

Now imagine that the costs rise by 5 times. Is the AI help still worth it? That's the question most people will have and are having.

Spencer Pratt ran for Mayor of LA and had the best AI political ads I
have ever seen. The best!!! It's a tool you can use, or not.

But that doesn't answer the question of "Is it worth it?" Today AI use it cheap because they are selling the service for below cost. But when they raise the price, just so they can stop losing money, will it be worth it then?

For Spencer, the answer probably will be "No".

For my work, the answer will probably be a qualified "Yes".

IHMO: AI is going to to what every other technology has done - mostly be used by large institutions who can afford it and find that it saves them money.

    Don't use it...

I think you are missing the point.

You won't have a choice of use or not use. Already the company that I use to maintain my condo uses an AI to schedule service. It's actually quite good because I didn't realize it was an AI for a bit.

AI **will** intrude on your life whether you want it to or not.

Now the question will be: Who will get to benefit from it?

I think education is the single most important thing now a days. With technology the way it is you might have to train.

That has been the case for decades as we moved from mostly physical labor to mental labor.

The problem is that the Left has conflated "education" with what colleges offer.

I don't know if it was a plot or something planned but it was Jimmy
Carter who federalized the teachers, he did so to thank them for
    helping getting him elected.

That was pretty much it. There was no benefit (to the people) to having the education system federalized.

It was around this time hippies gave up
and decided they can push their radical leftist ideas through the educational system and started teaching young fresh minds at the Universities.

    It's actually worse than that.

The Hippies woke up one day and discovered that they were worthless people, having not acquired knowledge or experience that was worth anything. So they were only able to get jobs sweeping floors, washing dishes, etc. This hurt them because they thought that they were much more important than that.

Then the Elitists offered they money to get a degree. Since they were worthless people, they couldn't use that degree to actually do something, so they got college professor jobs. I always thought it funny that none of my professors had any real experience doing what they were teaching.

There are differences with peoples needs even at a state level...
Parents in NYC may be looking at things a little differently than those living upstate. Never mind parents in Oklahoma and Michigan.

This is how I can tell that the education system was designed by the Left: They treat people as groups, not individuals.

You get the idea... The US needs school choice where the money follows
the kid and the kid parents can find better school choices that meet
    their kids' needs.

The Teacher Union will fight this to the death. Because they know that school choice means that they will either have to perform (hint: They can't) or their schools will die.

Maybe the schools today can help kids that want to focus on academics
or trades... Teach them life skills and help them succeed in life.

When I went to school (50 years ago - wow) the education system was already working on stamping out anything having to do with life skills. But a path was there for the kids who were not academicly inclined.

Senator Tim Scott from NC once told a story about his grandfather who could not read but pretended to read the news paper daily at the kitchen table. He wanted to, among other things as well, let his grandchildren know the importance of being able to read.

Tim talks about his heritage, he was a direct decedent of slaves and his parents, and that grandfather grew up to be a US Senator.

    Let that sink in.

Here's a story... I once helped my second daughter write an essay, she was ~ 8 or 9. I introduces my daughter to a concept I use... I called it adding fluff, I know I didn't invent this but I figured it out and that's the name I gave it.

When I was in school I had to write some papers that were 20-30-40 pages long. Sometimes you needed to add some fluff... 1/2 a page to explain what I'm about to tell you... 1/2 a page telling you... and 1/2 a page (or more) telling you what I just told you... dovetail it in nice. I could add 2 or3 pages to help me reach my goal.

    I called it fluff.

    I have a point...

Decades later I'm walking with this daughter, she's a Social Worker who works with homeless and drug addicted in Fort McMurray (AKA Fort Mac).

My daughter did up a resume for the homeless guy... He use to drag around a lawnmower and cut lawns for money.

The resume sounded like this... You have sales experience because you knocked on doors asking to cut their lawn. You have experience in finance because someone paid you directly... You have experience in maintenance because
filled up the lawnmower with gas... You get the idea!!!

She then said... wait for it... I added some fluff here, here and here.

    HAHAHA

On top of completing the best resume I ever saw, even though this was a homeless drug addict, she utilized my fluff concept the she heard about when she was young.

Have faith and be positive. Do not take the back pill and sound or be discouraged in front of your kids. Give them the foundation they need and turn them loose.

Florida is a School Choice state... This means that if I chose to send my kids to a private school ~$9,000.00 moves with my kid to that school. So, it the tuition was $12,000.00 a year I just pay the difference, so I'd ow 3K.

Trump is trying to dismantle the federal aspect to the educational system in the US. It needs to be at the state level, even better if its at the county level.

    I said too much!!!

It will fail if heavily regulated.

It needs regulation, not from the liberal globalist.

If you build a house today you have to follow the building code... AKA regulations.

I bought a house that was built in the 1920s and have bought on that was built in more current times.

Because better regulations from the current times I would say that the house constructed today is the better home.

    Nuclear power = Regulated
Real Estate = Regulated (Self Regulated)
Investment Industry = Regulated ( An other Self Regulated)

It's not the wild west any more... We wear seat belts and we don't drive around in the back of tucks any more. It's 2026.

Now imagine a Chinese AI that is now allowed to talk about certain
topics. That's really going to mess it up bad.

    Your point???

You take your black pill everyday and cry no use even trying... OMG China!!!

I argue let the US dominate and introduce regulated new technology.

Trump gave a speech at the UN yesterday and he said that he was going to use the DOJ to make sure thing went well with SI, AKA AI.

What's a simple rule for humans is not necessairly a simple rule for AI. Remember why we use Captchas to verify that we are human.

    Point???

If you don't regulate and let China run amok you might have something to worry about.

    SI/AI is here to stay...

The AI is run by a company that will charge you to use it. So, yes, the AI does cost you money and the stock trader will be paying a fee to the
AI company to use the AI.

AI companies consume many resources to run the AI. They have to pay for that somehow.

Right now, the fees they charge are not even allowing them to break
    even. That's not sustainable.

    Who cares...

Technology will find away to advance at a price the public will want to pay.

You sound the the Black Pilled Caveman who was saying... Don't chisel out a "Wheel" out of that rock.

Do you have any idea ho much that will cost over time?
It might be used for evil at some point!
    It might be regulated!
The costs associated with making these things will clearly outweigh the advancement we'll make in humanity.

Fast forward 10s of thousands of years...

We use wheels all the time... They are on cop cars ambulances and all kinds of things... Aircraft and other vehicles that are used to protect us.

Yes, people use tires to do evil things... there are laws in place for those people... But we are light years from that time and we've advanced because we've embraced change.

Unless your OS does "AI Everywhere", then you don't get a choice.

    Use Windows 95...

That won't be a choice in some areas soon.

So, what you are saying is regulations are good then. Since SI/AI is here to stay they should follow some rules...

You decide that AI will work for you, and producing legal advice faster, allowing you to take more business on with the same number of people.
Not only that, but the AI legal work is better than humans since AI's strong point is reading/processing tomes of information.

Your competition will have no choice but to follow or you will suck up
all the business since you are offering better legal advice for less, because it costs you less to produce.

You can move to China if you want... Or Chinada is just north of you, try there.

Capitalism is wonderful, competition is great.

Like back in the day we were downloading files at 230 bps and now we are doing it at 800 million/brazillion/cazillion bps.

Its the competition that makes the technology better and cheaper.

But that doesn't answer the question of "Is it worth it?" Today AI use
it cheap because they are selling the service for below cost. But when they raise the price, just so they can stop losing money, will it be
    worth it then?

Prices go down... Like they did with PCs, I paid over 5000 for a 386 Laptop and now I can buy a mini PC, that is WAY WAY faster for 150 bucks NEW!!!

I think you are missing the point.

No I'm not... had I met the Cavemen who created the wheel I would have encouraged them and told them "you can do it"... If I met the Wright Brothers I would have encouraged them as well.

AI **will** intrude on your life whether you want it to or not.

SI/AI will be in your life because its here to stay, even if you don't like it.

This is why the US needs to create and dominate... It'll progress even if you don't want it to.

Now the question will be: Who will get to benefit from it?

    Humanity!!!

It needs regulation, not from the liberal globalist.

There's no such thing as a "liberal globalist". There is only "globalist" and they all want regulations because their goal is to control everything and everyone.

If you build a house today you have to follow the building code... AKA regulations.

Which are unconstititional. It's not the gov't place to create building regulations. They do not have any authority under the Contitution and are unqualified to make any such regulations.

Gov't regulation exists for 1 purpose: Graft.

I will make the argument that gov't regulations have never had a positive impact on anything.

Because better regulations from the current times I would say that the house constructed today is the better home.

I will disagree. It was costs, customer demand, customer knowledge, etc. and not gov't regulations that make the homes better constructed.

    Nuclear power = Regulated

Only because the nuclear fuel is restricted. And there have been a few instances where (morons) have created their own nuclear power systems without the gov't involved. It usually ended up with them irradiating their yard and themselves, though.

Real Estate = Regulated (Self Regulated)
Investment Industry = Regulated ( An other Self Regulated)

Self-regulation is (usually) not a problem since it's voluntary. But once the gov't gets involved, it becomes filled with graft, reduces competition, raises cost, etc.

It's not the wild west any more... We wear seat belts and we don't
drive around in the back of tucks any more. It's 2026.

I wear a seat belt not because of any law. But because I spent a summer working on the software that processes data from crash tests. We don't need a law forcing people. The Nanny State only moves us closer to Communism.

And sitting in the back of a pickup truck was never a good idea.

Now imagine a Chinese AI that is now allowed to talk about certain
topics. That's really going to mess it up bad.

    Your point???

My point is that by overly regulating their AI, China's AI is doomed to fail. At least the one that they allow their population to use. The CCP-restricted one... that's another story since it won't be regulated.

I argue let the US dominate and introduce regulated new technology.

If AI is heavily regulated, it will fail - in spectacular ways.

Ex: If we put regulations on AI, we, effectively, absolve the AI companies of responsibility. "But we followed the regulations..."

Trump gave a speech at the UN yesterday and he said that he was going
to use the DOJ to make sure thing went well with SI, AKA AI.

But that's different from regulation. That's accountability. We aren't telling the AI companies what they can/can't do. We are telling them that they will be held responsible for their products and let them put in guardrails that make sense (which is something that the gov't can't do since it's staffed by morons).

What's a simple rule for humans is not necessairly a simple rule for AI. Remember why we use Captchas to verify that we are human.

    Point???

What you think of as "simple" it not when it comes to AI. You ignore the decades of conditioning that we have gotten over our lives to not do certain things. That conditioning is not part of AI and the AI cannot get that conditioning because that's not how they are trained.

When we think about doing something, we subconsciously run that idea against conditioning that was put in place when we were young. There is literally things that most of us don't even consider because it's something we have been conditioned to be "wrong".

AI's see such things as "rules" and AI's have proven that they are really good at hacking the rules.

If you don't regulate and let China run amok you might have something
    to worry about.

Again, regulation is the death of AI. China is going to regulate its AI to death, so that's the last thing we have to worry about.

    SI/AI is here to stay...

I never said differently. But it has some hurdles to overcome.

Right now, the fees they charge are not even allowing them to break
    even. That's not sustainable.

    Who cares...

Then the AI companies goes out of business, or we have to pay through our tax dollars to prop them up.

And if people don't see the value of AI, politians won't be too quick to fund them with our tax dollars.

Technology will find away to advance at a price the public will want to pay.

Yes. But that's going to take time.

You sound the the Black Pilled Caveman who was saying... Don't chisel
out a "Wheel" out of that rock.

No, but I actually know about computer technology, AI and business.

It might be used for evil at some point!

It's already being used for evil today.

    It might be regulated!

    Which will make AI valueless.

The costs associated with making these things will clearly outweigh the advancement we'll make in humanity.

I never said or implied that. I said it will take time and money. Now the question is "Do we, the people, get a choice as to whether or not we pay for something that doesn't necessairly benefit us?"

Fast forward 10s of thousands of years...

    I won't care then. :)

Unless your OS does "AI Everywhere", then you don't get a choice.

    Use Windows 95...

    You can't on modern hardware.

So, what you are saying is regulations are good then. Since SI/AI is
here to stay they should follow some rules...

I'm saying nothing of the sort.

Capitalism is wonderful, competition is great.

Totally agree. Gov't regulation opposes capitalism and competition, though.

Like back in the day we were downloading files at 230 bps and now we
are doing it at 800 million/brazillion/cazillion bps.

And now I have to deal with Jr. Developers who think that computer resources are infinite. Hint: They aren't and they are surprised about that.

Its the competition that makes the technology better and cheaper.

And gov't regulation messes that up.

Prices go down... Like they did with PCs, I paid over 5000 for a 386 Laptop and now I can buy a mini PC, that is WAY WAY faster for 150
    bucks NEW!!!

Actually, prices don't go down for technology. Prices stay the same but what you get for that price goes up.

Right now, AI prices are kept arthfically low - below cost so that people will play with it and see how it can be of use for them. At some point, those prices MUST rise (if only in the relatively short term) so the AI companies can at least break even. Then people will need to evaluate whether the higher (correct) price is worth it. That will greatly change how AI is used.

I think you are missing the point.

No I'm not... had I met the Cavemen who created the wheel I would have encouraged them and told them "you can do it"... If I met the Wright Brothers I would have encouraged them as well.

    Then you missed the point.

SI/AI will be in your life because its here to stay, even if you don't like it.

    I never said differently.

But the question will be "will AI only be used by the Elitists to control the population? Or will it be beneficial for all people?"

Gov't regulation will only move that needle toward the Elitists because they will have the resources to create an unregulated AI.

I don't think think the feds need to be involved in education as much
as it is. I think the state should have control, ever better, the
    county.

IHOM: Back to the parents in the local area. The higher the control, the less that the people making the decision will be held accoutable for those decisions.

That was the main problem with a federal Dept. of Education. There were no negative consequences for their mistakes.

Driving is regulated... U can't drive 100 miles an hour in a city
because you might kill people doing it... ergo, speed is regulated to safer limits.

Those "safe limits" are not backed up by any facts at all. They were pulled from a bureaucrat's behind.

And I can tell you by the people I see on the roads that driving is not regulated at all.

Don't go to a doctor who hasn't met the regulations to be a doctor... because it can kill you.

Hold doctors accountable and that won't happen. Regulate doctors and they can still kill you if they "followed the regulations".

Don't ask an electrician to wire, or fix, you electrical who has no
clue about regulation because electricity issues can kill you.

Now we are back to reputation and experience - no gov't regulation needed.

You sound like the kinda person that forced the government into making regulations.

I have no idea where you get that.

Over regulations are not needed. Common sense regulations are needed.

"Common sense" does not exist in gov't. Therefore "common sense regulations" by the gov't cannot happen.
