Yesterday, Trump decided to deliberately defy a court order. Journalists from CNN, Politico, and MSNBC were still barred from entering the White House. Trump is now on a collision course with the judiciary, sparking a power struggle. The President is consciously trampling upon the foundations of the American state. If he gets away with this, Trump will seize control, including over the third branch of government: the separation of powers. After all, he has already succeeded in bending the legislature to his will; under Republican leadership, both houses of Congress have ceded their power to Trump. If the judges follow suit and fail to rein him in, then, in my view, it amounts to a coup d'état. (The journalists were eventually allowed inside later that afternoon.)
