"Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer Bonnie Tyler died on July 8 at a
hospital in Portugal. She was 75. May she rest in peace.

I loved her version of that plus 'I Need a Hero'. I have both of those
in my music collection on my computer.

Odd coincidence, when I read this message 'Angel of the Morning' was
playing on my computer and I thought it was her, but it was the Juice
Newton version of it.

I went looking for Tyler's and found it online but I'm afraid I much
prefer Juice Newton's version of that song.. but those other 2 somgs
Tyler did better than anyone else I think..

I didn't realize that Olivia Newton-John covered it too. Again, not as good as the JN version.

The Merilee Rush version comes close to the JN version, but I find the horns somewhat comical and out of place, killing the passion of the song.

later copies don't do as well. There's a minor advantage in that
the original was 'The Original', so nothing else will be fairly
compared to it unless it is noticable better.

Yes, the version of 'Angel of the Morning' I found was rather raspy and
a little flat sounding, which was a surprise.

Funny my (poor?) memory.. I was thinking it was Tyler that had the
rather public affair with Glen Campbell way back but it turned out
it was Tanya Tucker who was involved in that.

One singer that did a lot of remakes of songs and was probably
better than she got credit for was LeAnn Rimes. I have about
a dozen of her songs in my collection and most are pretty good.

I sort of think she didn't get taken seriously because she
started off as a Child star best known for doing 'How Do I Live'..

LOL, I knew that one. There was always the joke that "Glen Campbell got poor Tanya Tucker hooked on drugs!" Whenever his name comes up and I am with my father, I will say that just to get his reaction, which is usually, "Oh balogna! It was the probably the other way round!" :D

started off as a Child star best known for doing 'How Do I Live'..

She was only 14-15yrs old when she recorded it, right? Amazing performance, delivery and control at that age.

I suppose also many of us might never hear the original version
if it didn't get super popular.. I have my music collection,
mostly old stuff, but I'm not a big music follower. I play my
collection but rarely listen to the radio at home, plus the
station I have on in my car plays mostly 'oldies'..

But, a good example of most people never hearing the original..
'What about Love', a big hit for the American group 'Heart',
was originally recorded by the Canadian group 'Toronto' in 1982.

Absolutely.. I always liked that one. She makes it work, but she

Yes, I think her very first song recorded was 'Blue', which she
did at age 13. But she has (had?) a very good voice and she
didn't seem to try to make cover songs 'her own' by changing them.
She just sang it the way it was originally performed and usually
produced a very good version of them.

She has recently played a character in the series, 911 Nashville,
where she plays a failing singer who was losing her voice, the
mother of one of the young Emergency Workers, and is generally
not a very nice person..

Some of that comes from real life as she's had a number of health
issues through much of her life, including vocal cord problems,
but she is still out there trying I guess..
